Saddle Sores
By Brian • Aug 6th, 2007 • Category: Pan Massachusetts ChallengeYes, saddle sores. that was one long ride. we’ll be posting more details (Tracey is our report specialist), but I wanted to give you a quick update on the ride agenda we followed for the last four days…
- Thursday, August 2nd: 19 Miles of total climbing. The three of us drove to the Great Barrington, NY to get a jump start. We had so many heavy hitter hill-climb challenges, that we had to get started early. For every $500+ donation ($250 plus company matching gifts), we climbed a 1-mile, 900 vertical foot hill in memory of a person specified by the donor. We had to do it TEN times for 9,000 vertical feet of climbing.
- Friday, August 3rd: 90 Miles from Hillsdale, NY to Sturbridge, MA. This was a VERY HOT day (up to 98 degrees). There were 24 of us, doing this “unofficial” leg, as a combination of several teams. We had police escorts through five towns.
- Saturday, August 4th: 110 Miles from Sturbridge, MA to Bourne, MA (right at the start of the Cape). Cooler, but still warm (just over 90 degrees). We started at 6AM for this leg, the first “official” leg of the ride.
- Sunday, August 5th: 77 Miles from Bourne, MA, over the Bourne Bridge, to Provincetown, MA. GREAT weather, only into the low 80s.
So we rode 296 miles between Thursday night, and Sunday morning. For me, at least, that is the biggest ride, and most rewarding event in which I have EVER participated.
My life is changed forever…
I want to thank Paul for getting Tracey and me involved in the Pan-Mass Challenge. Without his motivation and drive, Tracey and I might have missed out on something truly special.
And thanks to all of you who helped us reach our fund-raising goal. As of 8:34PM, Monday, August 6th, our total fund-raising is (drum role please):
$20,707!
And the donations keep coming in! We’ve smashed our goal, and we still have until October to finish up!
Stay tuned, we are FAR from done with this effort!
