Why I Ride…
By Tracey • Mar 20th, 2007 • Category: Pan Massachusetts ChallengeFor those of you who know me, planning to ride a bicycle across Massachusetts (the long way across) is something I will enjoy. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my summer than training to ride long distances on a bike. For those of you who haven’t met me, some would say you are lucky! Riding my bicycle is a passion for me – plain and simple. It is a part of who I am. But another way that I enjoy spending time is through the work that I have done in searching for a cure for cancer.
I have spent the last 10 years or so working as a research scientist with the one task of finding better treatments for cancer. I have had the joy of seeing patients respond to medications that I helped to discover, but I have also felt first hand the disappointment when a drug fails in an experiment, or a patient doesn’t respond to clinical treatments. Over these years, I have taken great pride in my work and consider myself lucky to enjoy my career after all these years.
However, recently, due to changes at my place of employment, I will no longer be able to work on finding a cure for cancer. You can imagine the hardship this has created for me, but in the end, it hasn’t stopped my drive to be a part of finding the cure. Riding in the Pan Mass Challenge will offer me the link I need to help those with this disease. Helping to raise funds to perpetuate those who will do the research has now become my focus. With your help, I know we can make the difference. I want to thank you up front for your support and let you know that your help is the key to finding a cure.
Please have a great day and come back soon for more updates!
